In light of the current situation surrounding Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19), the 9th Annual Cattaraugus County Farmer-Neighbor Dinner scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the West Valley Fire Hall will be postponed.
In light of the current situation surrounding Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19), the 9th Annual Cattaraugus County Farmer-Neighbor Dinner scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the West Valley Fire Hall will be postponed.
The Cattaraugus County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board, along with the Cattaraugus County Department of Economic Development, Planning and Tourism, the Cattaraugus County Farm Bureau and the Cattaraugus County Soil and Water Conservation District will host the 9th Annual Cattaraugus County Farmer-Neighbor Dinner on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the West Valley Fire Hall, 9091 Route 240, West Valley, NY.
The Cattaraugus County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board (AFPB) is in the process of updating the County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan (AFPP). A requirement of the planning process is to have public input. To this end, a focus group meeting to discuss recommendations aimed at improving farm business opportunities in the County is convening on February 13, 2020. The meeting will take place in Ellicottville from 11:00 am to 2:00pm.
The Cattaraugus County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board is working on a new County Agriculture Plan. Public input is critical for understanding the complex issues related to area agriculture, and we’d like to hear from you!

Chuck and Phyllis Couture have been active in various agricultural circles since they moved to Cattaraugus County in 1968. Chuck was an agriculture teacher at Springville Griffith Institute, retiring in 1995. While teaching there he was also FFA advisor, and had numerous Empire and American Farmers, and he was awarded the Honorary American Farmer Degree. Both Phyllis and Chuck were 4-H leaders, served on the Cattaraugus County 4-H Program Committee and the Cattaraugus County Cooperative Extension Board of Directors.
The Cattaraugus County Soil & Water Conservation District has selected Woloszyn Farms, LLC for the 2019 Conservation Farm of the Year Award. Stephen & Diane Woloszyn and their family operate a dairy farm in the Town of Yorkshire.
Hi-Y Farm is located in Little Valley and is operated by Judy Golley, Chris Golley, and Jessica Golley-Halftown. Hi-Y was originally established by parents/grandparents, Stub & Maggie Yehl, in 1950 and was once a dairy farm and then a fully functional beef farm. With a goal of rejuvenating this once active farm, the family applied for the NYS Hemp Pilot program and were approved as official research partners in 2017.

Cattaraugus County EDPT is currently updating the Ag Trail Brochure, which will include all elements of the previous brochure, but now also include a Farm to Table Restaurants section. This section will include restaurants who clearly state on their website, Facebook, or pamphlet/menu that they use some locally sourced food. Cattaraugus County is also looking to add farm certification information to the Brochure.
